By that I mean a car that gets very very good gas mileage and one that can burn multiple fuel types. It would be great cuz when the alternative fuels are more readily available I could save $$$ by using the bio diesel, ethanol 85, hydrogen, etc. If they haven’t made one yet why not? And can we ever get the oil companies to stop buying out these great inventions only cuz it threatens their lifestyles and cash income? Just asking.

I doubt that there will every be a car that can handle all the fuels you listed. They are very different technologies and swapping on the fly just wouldn’t work out.
Plus, if they did find some way to get all the fuel systems in, the engine would end up very compicated and prohibitively expensive.
It would also be convenient if the remote control for your TV could take any size battery (AA, AAA, 9V, C, D, N, etc) but if they made that your remote would be triple it’s current size.
It just isn’t practical to try to use all solutions at once – it’s better to just pick the most promising one and run with it.

yes a guy back in the 70 came up with a carburetor that did a hundred miles to the gallon I’m working on one right now and with the technology today should get 150-200 miles to the gallon the question is how much would you pay for it?
Short Answer: YES & its already being done by FORD.

The problem with a flex-fuel vehicle that can handle a large number of fuels is that different fuels require completely different fuel systems. It’s possible to run ethanol and gasoline – and methonal, for that matter – through the same lines and injectors. But hydrogen, propane, and CNG all require different storage tanks and different injector sizes. You’d need three or four fuel tanks to handle it all. And then diesel and bio-diesel require higher compression ratio than spark ignition fuels.
I don’t put much stock in the claim that oil companies actually buy up miraculous mileage improving gadgets. After all, to pull that off, they would either need to bribe the auto companies with an amount equal to the sales they’d make if they came out with such a technology, and track down all the independant inventors and buy them out before either the auto companies or the mainstream press got wind of it. Quite an operation.
And if they bought the patent rights, they would be sitting on a timebomb – seventeen years, and the blueprints for it would be public domain and anyone could copy it, while if they paid an inventor to keep quiet, they would have no legal recourse if somebody else invented the same thing.
