when my car idles under 1000 rams per minutes it cuts off, why? now water comes out of my exhaust?

My engine over heated and after i put water into the radiator i tried to crank my car well when i did i had to pump the gas peddle for it to crank all the way and then had to keep it at about 1500 rpms the whole time i would drive or sit at a light so i had to put my car into neutral and rev the engine while stopped or my car would cut off under 1000 rpms. What could be wrong I am a single mom and this is my only mode of transportation!

nothing major – the water is a by product of the combustion process mingled with condensation. also your engine is likely running a bit lean and dying from lack of gas or oxygen.

1. You overheated, potential headgasket, warped head.
2. You shocked the engine putting cold water in a hot motor.
Another reason for blown head gasket, warped head.

First of all, track down why you overheated in the first place.

LOL@ hank, made my nite.

That’s a lot of rams are you feeding them properly?

Sounds like your beating your car to death. You probably ran engine to hot and blew a head gasket and who knows what else. You need to find reason it overheated in the first place. I suggest you don’t keep driving till you get it checked out, have it towed if necessary or you’ll end up having to replace engine.

It is normal for water to come out of the tailpipe of some cars. So, don’t worry yet.

However, it is possible that the cars has a bad head gasket, cracked head, or cracked block. (These things could leak water into the cylinder, and that would expel water vapor through the tailpipe (some of that would condense to water)). RPM might drop if you have any of those problems.

It is possible that you just noticed the water coming out of the tailpipe because you suddenly have car trouble, and you may have had a normal amount of water all this time and didn’t even notice.

For a moment, I will ignore the water issue, and focus on the rpm issue. If a vacuum hose (small rubber hose under the hood) is cracked or disconnected, your car would idle slower, and it might stall. Also, a vacuum device might have broken (perhaps in a way that you could see, or perhaps in a way that you could not see. Maybe a hose merely disconnected?

I recommend replacing all of the small vacuum hoses under your hood (you can do this yourself). It will cost about $20 for all of the rubber vacuum hoses.

I think that a smog repair shop might be able to find the problem and fix it.

It is usually better to check the small and cheap things first, especially if they are known for causing problems.

probably the head gasket water in the oil is the #1 sign of a blown head gasket and i believe you mean rpm (revolutions per minute) but my mom had the same problem so me and my dad fixed it well… in the process of fixing it lol
