What Happens If You Feed Hydrogen Gas Along With Air In A Car Engine Intake. Will It Explode-?
I want to feed wisp of hydrogen gas from battery into air-intake, hoping it will reduce gas consumption. What can happen, can anyone suggest ?.

As long as you do not have an ignition source in the intake manifold it will not explode.
However this has been tried with no demonstrable improvement in gasoline mileage.
There are a number of promoters who sell kits (or plans for a hydrogen generator) to generate hydrogen or a mixture of hydrogen and oxygen to feed into you engine, supposedly to improve gasoline mileage.
None of these has ever been shown to improve gasoline mileage.
All these kits and plans accomplish is to make gobs of money for the promoters.
Your talking about those silly HHO devices, and they cannot and will not increase your fuel mileage, yes I can prove it.
At BEST they can make about 10 liters a minuet, it sounds like a lot but it is a very small amount of vapor as far as your engine is concerned. If you mix the HHO into the intake of your engine there is little danger of it going boom.
Now I’m willing to be along with this device you will be asked to change out the oxygen sensor or add a device to optimize your fuel air mix. All this does is lean out the fuel air mix, which will increase your combustion temperature leading to burn valves, pistons, heads, (read very expensive parts to replace) as well as break several federal and state laws.
Save your time and money, get a tune up and inflate your tires you’ll save more fuel that way then you will EVER save with a HHO device.
This is a bad idea. Think about the instructions given for jump-starting a dead battery and you’ll see that the gases coming from inside are so combustible the spark of hooking up a jumper cable can ignite them. Now extend that to running your car and you’ll see the risk of using hydrogen, or you could just search for what happened to the Hindenburg. Hydrogen is likely to be a pipe dream until we have nuclear fusion, sometime in the distant future. It’s not an energy source like fossil fuels, it’s an energy storage medium and not a very efficient one. The HHO thing is indeed a scam to separate you from your money, if anyone had a viable way to use an inexpensive catalyst to make hydrogen, they’d be richer than Warren Buffet within a decade. So far there have been reproducible results that suggest anyone’s achieved it yet.
Dear Krithya,
*****If you are hooking up your car’s battery to the air
intake, you won’t get enough hydrogen to make a difference.
The hydrogen is not a pollution source in those tiny amounts.
It will not explode until it gets into the cylinder. If you are
getting into a HOH device, be wary. I think that is a scam.
Find someone who already has one installed and ask how it
works. Simple is usually better. The most dangerous
explosive in our society is unleaded gasoline. Hydrogen is
lighter than air, so it goes up when released. As a fuel
for cars, it takes to much to store it. A high pressure tank
and a big compressor at the least. As an energy storage
for solar or wind power, maybe.
*****To beat the oil creeps, think about MOONSHINE!!!
Look for a book “Alcohol can be a Gas” at your library
or buy from “Mother Earth News” magazine. At about
sixty bucks, this book will even tell you how to build
the still! A car runs great on it, and it is safer than
gasoline. It is cleaner, and you engine lasts longer
using it. It can be mixed with gasoline and reduces
pollution.
The very small amount of H2 from your battery is not enough to even make a measurable change on fuel economy on a car. You must install a Hydrogen generator to get enough to make a difference. There are many examples of experiments of this technology on the web. Some seem to have had some success. Others have not done well.
First of all it will not explode unless you have an ignition source.
Secondly hydrogen sound great, but to combust you need a Air to Fuel ration ~1.
If I remember right Hydergen does not much more power due to the fact that It requires alot more Air to combust than gasoline. IE you have less fuel in the cylinder.
In addition to the good answers you’ve gotten so far, the gas from a lead-acid battery contains traces of sulfuric acid. This will corrode the inside of your engine over time.
ILook up “hypermiler” to get some driving techniques that will save more gas than this will.

Hydrogen reacts with oxygen very rapidly to form water. You’d have less oxygen reaching your engine, so probably poorer combustion. Look up “Water Injection” though for possible positive side effects.
