Water = hydrogen + Oxygen .Why cant we make a system wherein the water is split and the resulting Gas can be used to burn as Fuel.the electricity for the splitting can be generated by a battery initially which can get charged as the vehicle is moving.
I can only hope this kind of thing will never be invented. Can you figure out what would happen to our water planet wide? It’s already hard enough for human kind to have drinkable water… can you imagine what would happen? Another thing is to move them using Hydrogen!!! This is the way!

I believe the explanation was that the energy required to split these bonds is many times more than the resulting energy, so it would require some sort of “cold” seperation technique
That would be a hell of a good engine. I hope someone is working on it somewhere in the world.
To split the water you will need at least as much energy if not more than you get when you burn the gas.
This is absurd. It it a violation of the physical law “conservation of mass-energy”.
The same idea as perpetual motion or running your house with a heavy extension cord plugged back into the house outlets.
The car companies have been working on hydrogen powered cars for years but there are technical hurdles that have to be solved.
There are cars that run on Fuel Cells which are Hydrogen powered. I believe GM or one of the American Car companies is coming out with one soon. The problem is that you can’t find places to fill up, and the gas companies make it hard on the manufacturer to put them out. They are also expensive. I think you will see more cars running on Ethenol before you see the Fuel Cells come out.
Normal internal combustion engines will run off this mix of hydrogen and oxygen, however, they will not last, to much wear and damage to the internal parts, not to mention rusting from exhaust and such. they do have turbine engines designed to run completely off of hydrogen however they are much to expensive for the general public to buy. Everything is supply and demand, people cant afford it, it wont be in demand, no one can then make money off of it so they dont produce them. as far as making the two gases as we drive, one of the other Answers answered that, we cant make the gas as fast as you burn it. This is and will be the way of the future, but it needs time to develop. I would say what is more likely, we will be stopping at gas stations to pick up bottled Hydrogen, it will be injected with a mixture of air, burn, then as far as exhaust you will get mostly Nitrogen, Water, and a little Carbon Monoxide emited, The CO1 that will be emited though will be much less then it is at the moment in cars. Hydrogen unlike Petro can be then made through photovotaic means, Wind power or basicly anyway we generate electricty. Unfortunatly, most of our power still comes from fossile fuels. So again if we use current means of making power to make the hydrogen, we are just paying more for our electric bills, so really not saving much there either. And the Number one reason this is not practical right now…. People cant get billions of dollars to retire from big oil companys.
