there must be a way to make a hybrid from our present gas guzzlers?

are there any inventive mechanics out there that can make a hydrogen or electric hybrid out of a fuel guzzler ? I know in cold areas such as alaska and north Dakota we had engine heaters that you could plug in to your house outlet …necessity the mother of invention…why not a plug in hybrid homemade

Your a dork!
Not only has the idea been done,, but kits are sold for those who want to do it themselves and save money,,
it involves a complete redo, lose the engine and trans and put in the new electric trans kit ,, waaalaaa..
Or you can go to a junk yard and buy a wrecked hybrid for about 10 G’s or more and switch out components..
And the question you asked is a waste,, if you have a problem with gas guzzler just go by a hybrid or get a scooter that gets 100 miles a gal.

Although hybrids are simple enough in there design. If i’m understanding you correctly, you are suggesting building your own. This may be a problem if you ever break down. Consider buying a chevy tahoe with the hybrid tech. Or go take a city in CA that runs on a fuel cell

There is no real way to make them a hybrid, you can only keep them up on there maintance and depending on the year you have change some components out like electronic ignition from mechanical, (points, rotor) that sort of thing.

Chevrolet already makes the Tahoe Hybrid. It’s rated in the low 20s city and highway, which is about a 25% savings over a comprable SUV.

This SUV is certainly not the answer though, as it starts at over $50,000, which is about a $20,000 premium over a base Tahoe.

Hydrogen is out of the question, at least for the next twenty years (for mass consumption), so expect to see more SUVs like this Tahoe, and perhaps some diesel hybrids as well.

Just to let you know, you can get a Mercedes-Benz ML 320 CDI (diesel) that gets the same combined mileage and costs about the same…. Plus it’s a Mercedes and not a Chevrolet.
