Over the years, the various vehicles I’ve had, a drop in gas mileage has been the first indicator of a bigger problem. My first car went from 25 mpg to 8 mpg, when I noticed I had a leak in the gas line. my next car would routinely drop from about 20 city/25 hwy to about 15 for either when it needed the timing belt, or spark plug replaced. So I began taking my car to my mechanic friend any time I noticed a drop in my gas mileage. He has since moved, and I don’t trust regular mechanics (got charged $300 to replace a water pump and timing belt; they replaced it with junkyard parts, skipped town by the time I found out); plus I’m broke.

It will start up and run fine for a bit then it will spit and sputter and then just die sometimes it fires back up and sometimes you have to leave it alone for a while we thought maybe the water in the gas so we put dry gas in it and im personally thinking maybe its the spark plugs it happened after we played in water and mud and the baffle was out but there is no water in the airbox we checked that and if it is the spark plugs where would they be located on the engine because we looked all over and tore it apart and couldnt find them but we are 15 and still have much to learn so any ideas?

I have a 1999 Ford Expedition and it has finally given me some major issues. It started about 2 months ago and what happened was it would have a really hard time starting up. I live in Ohio and I assumed it was just the cold. Well about a month ago when I backed out of my parking spot and took off and it tend to jerk a bit and it seemed like the truck shut off for a bit but then it turned on. I asked my dad and he said it may have been water in the gas tank and it got into the engine for a bit but he said I should buy the thing that mixes the water and gas together. Well it helped for a quick bit but yesterday it was bad. Now the truck shuts off on the turns, mainly right turns when I go to take off. I don’t even have to put a lot of gas while making the turn. Finally today it just shut off while taking off at all. I don’t know what is wrong with it. Yesterday the gauges and everything tend to go crazy whenever I hit a bump. Everything would shut off then go as far as it could go then go back down to the actual reading. For example when I hit a bump the odometer went all the way to the 120mph and stayed there for about 3 seconds then went down the actual speed. This happened with everything though with the oil reading and the reading for how hot the truck was. I am thinking it is something electrical but I am not sure. What is wrong with my truck? How much am I looking at to get it fixed? Thanks.

Okay so i have a 1997 Mercedes-Benz E420 and today i put my car in 3rd gear and floored it … and it was fun and all.. and then after i hit 60 i stopped and pulled into my friends driveway and dropped him off and then i pulled back and my friend points at the floor where i was parked and liquid is dripping out.. i pull the car to the side and notice the front is dripping.. My temp on the car was really high *100 degrees*.. i looked under the car and water was dripping *it didnt smell like gas or oil* and so i look under the hood and there is water collected on the bottom like under my engine kinda… well anyway i leave it alone for a while.. and i go back to it and turn the heat on all the way and drive home *the temp went to 86 * *normally its at 82 or so*… and it stopped dripping while i was driving but when im parked it drips.. I cant tell if there is a hole under the car but i dont know what is wrong. What is wrong with my car? Did the radiator break? Please help me!
The color of the liquid is clear; no odor; and seems like water… when i was driving and flooring it i did not have the air conditioner on.. And why is it dripping from the bottom? is it cracked at the bottom of the car???
Also there was a pool at the bottom under the hood.. under the engine kinda you can say.. it isnt orange.. when i put the liquid on my hand it was clear… What do i have to do to repair it? and how much do you think it will cost?

I went to look at a boat today. I connected the fuel line to the outboard motor and squeezed the pump until it reached full pressure and there was (10 year old??) stale gasoline in the fuel line. I cranked the key and the engine turned over but didn’t start. Then I tried starter fluid.
The boat was sitting for years so I had to pull the battery out of my car to crank it over at all. It cranked over very easily. The engine is mechanically sound.

OK so I went on a trip for about a week and then came back to find that my scooter wouldn’t start. I, having no mechanical knowledge brought a guy over who replaced the spark plug and after a few times got it started. So I drove it around for a while and then came home and left it alone for about 3 hours. I came back to start it again and it was doing the same thing – not starting. The guy I brought over said that he thought water got in the gas and that’s why it wasn’t firing. I tried burning any water off of it but it still won’t start. Anybody know what’s wrong and how to fix it?

I have a 7.5hp 2 stroke Eska outboard motor, its probably late 70s or 80s. I recently picked it up, it has good compression, spark, and pre-mixed gas in the tank. I have also suspended it in water. It fired up once for a couple of seconds then wouldnt start again so I cleaned out the carb and it still wont run, does it need some major tuning?

I’ve had the car for a year…. Earlier this summer the Water pump went out, taking the timing belt and 16 valves with it. I had everything replaced, and when I got the car back it became evident that my car went from getting 70 miles per quarter tank to about 40 to 50. The Check engine light came on a few times, and I found it to be the EGR valve (but I looked under the hood and a few vacuum lines were undone, so i reaffixed them). The check engine light went off after doing that. What could be causing my Gas to drop 20 to 30 miles per quarter (80 to 120 mile per tank)?

It is a 2005 Honda Civic Hybrid. I’m the original owner, and I haven’t done anything recently or in the past that would be outside “normal driving.” I haven’t driven through any flood waters, etc. This problem just started happening.
When I go to start the car it tries to start but I just hear a lot of clicking. I wait a couple seconds and try again and it starts right up. This started a couple days ago, but I have always been able to start it on the second or third try. Sometimes it will start right up though and it isn’t necessarily related to the length of time I let the car sit without running.

I have a 95 chevy caprice with the 4.3L. I went to start it one day and it ran but when I dropped the hood it stalled and the starter went, in the process i broke the whole steering column as well. These are some parts I invested in. starter, ignition coil, fuel filter, water pump, wires, plugs and steering column as well. But the main problem is i swapped the steering column and the one in it now came from salvage. Everything works but when i go to crank it there is nothing. the only thing that kicks on is the fuel pump. thats it. And there is a new battery in it. the key has the chip but the light does not come on for it. could it be the ignition control module? Please help thanks.
