car has been sitting up for a couple of months, but was starting fine. now it acts like it wants to start on first try but doesn’t fully catch on. after that motor just turns over. it has plenty of gas in the tank. before this it had problems running hot. i took loose the heater core hoses to check the flow and the distributor was sitting under the flow of water. could this be the problem?

Hi I have a dodge with a 5.9 l gas engine and last week it died on me… I was on the road and it died slowly I pressed the gas pedal and it felt like it was flooding when i pressed on it, could only idle almost, until it died completely thinking it was the fuel pump i changed the fuel pump and made sure its the right one for the truck. After changing it still didn’t start still, oil smelled really flooded with gas so changed the oil, changed plugs to make sure no fouled plugs also changed the gas to make sure there wasn’t water in it. has good fire there is ample gas on the plugs they actually get flooded no backfires, nothing can anyone help please?

I haven’t had this trouble with my 2002 Honda Civic before. It has 65K+ miles on it and it’s automatic trans. The other morning I went to start it and it wouldn’t turn over. It wasn’t dead, it cranked but just wouldn’t “catch.” It made a horrible grating sound, though. My aunt came down and just kept trying it and it finally started, but there was the odor of raw gas in the garage. It’s been fine since. A new battery was installed in February. What could cause this problem? I’ve been asking around and I wanted to get a consensus of opinion. So far I’ve been told – water in the fuel line, timing belt problem, engine flooded, or starting motor problem. Would a can of dry gas help? Thanks in advance for any advice.
