What can I do to pay less for gas and get better gas mileage in general for my 1996 Dodge RAM 1500 truck?

I have a 1996 Dodge Ram 1500 truck which eats gas like I drink water. What can I do to increase gas mileage and make my money last longer? I mean, I have heard a little bit about catalytic converters can decrease your gas mileage if you take them off. Is this true? If it even is, how much money and gas can you actually save? I mean, I know gas has gone way up, but I would like to know all I can do to decrease the amount of gas used up in my truck so fast. Suggestions and help?

What’s wrong with my truck?

I have a 1999 Ford Expedition and it has finally given me some major issues. It started about 2 months ago and what happened was it would have a really hard time starting up. I live in Ohio and I assumed it was just the cold. Well about a month ago when I backed out of my parking spot and took off and it tend to jerk a bit and it seemed like the truck shut off for a bit but then it turned on. I asked my dad and he said it may have been water in the gas tank and it got into the engine for a bit but he said I should buy the thing that mixes the water and gas together. Well it helped for a quick bit but yesterday it was bad. Now the truck shuts off on the turns, mainly right turns when I go to take off. I don’t even have to put a lot of gas while making the turn. Finally today it just shut off while taking off at all. I don’t know what is wrong with it. Yesterday the gauges and everything tend to go crazy whenever I hit a bump. Everything would shut off then go as far as it could go then go back down to the actual reading. For example when I hit a bump the odometer went all the way to the 120mph and stayed there for about 3 seconds then went down the actual speed. This happened with everything though with the oil reading and the reading for how hot the truck was. I am thinking it is something electrical but I am not sure. What is wrong with my truck? How much am I looking at to get it fixed? Thanks.

I drove into a huge puddle of water and now my truck is acting up :(?

I have a 2005 Nissan Frontier and i have kept up on maintenance and everything. But today i was driving and the road was flooded.. but i had to go in it. I was about a foot high but i made it through. I parked at my house and everything was fine. When i got back in my car tonight it started fine and everything was working fine. About 20 minutes later i went to pass someone and my car jolted and almost stalled. When i stopped at the red light, it started to shake really bad. When i would push on the gas to go.. it would almost die and would shake for about 10 seconds then it would catch and go, but slow, it would not accelerated fast at all. What has happened to my truck?

Every time I give my truck gas it starts squealing. I changed alternator, belt, and idle pulley?

The truck sat outside in upstate NY for about a year and a half. I left it stupidly. Then i decided to have it fixed and it sat in a heated body shop for a year. Of course the body shop only did the body work. Now its my turn for mechanical and having trouble figuring out the problem.Put a new alternator and belt on and squealing stopped. Then next day of driving started squealing. Put idler pulley on. Didn’t help. My next step is the water pump and clutch fan. But i will wait for any responses. once again 97′ F150, 4.6 v8, vin 6, 8ft bed, extended cab. Thanks

My truck laggs when I step on the gas?

Hopefully someone can help me I have an 86 chevy c10. I just did the heads and major tune up (spark plugs, wires, distributor, distributor cap etc) along with the heads because there was starting to be signs of water in the oil. Ok the truck ran good for about a week or so, yesterday I was on the freeway and decided to step on the gas a little see how it responded, ran sweet picked up real quick. Suddenly my check engine light turned on so I exited out I thought it had overhead but everything was good. So I jumped back in and started back up the check engine was still on after driving a block or so it started really lagging when I stepped on the gas… And I have been breaking my head trying to figure this out. I took it to a transmission shop because that was my first thought, they checked it out the said it was fine and it had to be something else. Took to a mechanic n he said it might be the carburetor but you might know how it is with mechanics.. Basically when I accelerate the engine not in gear it sounds good but once I’m in gear it trys to move and just barely takes of, once it’s going seems like second gear kicks in real aggressive.. Any ideas of how or where to start fixing this problem? Thank you

Truck not acting like it’s getting gas?

Ok about a month or two ago, i was being stupid and took my truck in for some major Mud Boggin (ridin through mood, water ect….).. afterwards while driving, my U-Joints broke and of course my driveshaft fell… i fixed the U-Joints and got my truck runnin good again…. About 2 weeks later my truck broke down in the middle of the road.. It was acting like i was out of gas, if i idled it seemed fine, but when i went to get on the gas, it was sluggish and jumped real bad like it was low ( when i had a full tank pretty much ).. it does it now just about every time i drive… it may take 5-15min just to get to 45-50 miles an hour… but on somedays it runs just fine and acts like nothing is wrong.. Also when i start the truck up i contanstly have to give it gas, or it fails on me… and there is a knocking sound coming from under the truck ( possibly on the right passenger side )… If anyone has any ideas on what this may be please let me know..
The truck is a 1996 Ford Explorer 2WD 5.0L V8
truck idles fine, except on first start up and also the knocking isnt coming from the engine it is coming from under the truck… more like right under the truck from my passenger seat….

truck wont start after replacing water pump!!!?

Ok, here is the details leading up to my problem. I have been working on my truck “1989 ford f150 5.0 5 speed” for the last couple of days replacing my timing chain gasket. I replaced it and put my old water pump back on, I started my truck it ran for a min or two then stopped. Then I noticed my water pump was now leaking. I went and bought a new one and replaced it. It fixed that problem. Now My truck wont start, it will turn over fine. I thought I was out of gas, so i bought $5 in gas and put it in my truck. That didn’t work, so i think its not firing or something like that or maybe i have unplugged something in the process of replacing the pump and didn’t replug it, I have checked my fuses under my dash, they all where good. I have included all the details leading up to it not starting. If anyone can tell me what to check or what to do to find out where my problem is coming from i would greatly appreciate it. Tomorrow is my last day i will get to work on it for a while so i hope i get every thing fixed thanks.
Ok, update on problem. I went outside and took a plug out. I grounded it out and turned the key. after about 2 rotations it started sparking then it started briefly. I replaced my plug and went to restart my truck. It started for about 3 seconds, it ran really rough then died, and wouldnt start again. My battery went dead. so i will try again tomorrow.

Truck almost stalls when I come to a stop?

Every time I come to a stop or start my truck in the frigid cold (in the negatives for it to do it), it shakes and spudders like it’s about to stall out on me. I usually have to give it some gas to prevent it from dying.
I don’t know whether it could be a clogged fuel filter, bad fuel injector, water in the lines, clogged air filter…etc…

PS: I have a 98 Ford Explorer Sport

Trying to build water injection system for my truck.?

I want to build a water injection system for my truck to get better gas milage, more power and cleaner combustion. I have figured out how to make it run off vacuum pressure and how to aerate the water, but I’m having trouble finding an atomizer. I think I need one of those. I have a ball valve and will get the vacuum tubingand three-way connector whan I get past this part.

Has anyone done a DIY water injection before? Can you give me a parts list and tall me where to get whatever I need and don’t have?
