I have a 2004 Olds Alero (89,000 miles), and I drove to work this morning with no problems, except I was a bit low on gas. At 6:15 this evening I went to start up my car and it was reluctant to turn over, but did in less than a minute.
The car was shaking and idling very rough, and it’s a bit loud. No backfire, but its kind of got a putt-putt quality to the rough idling. I put in a container of Heet, the more intense one, and filled the tank. I drove the car home, for about 25 minutes, and the ride improved, but it’s still got the symptoms to a lesser degree.

I know snopes is a good place to check out urban legends but where can you check out advertiser claims? For example, I see a bunch of ads for converting a standard car to run on part gasoline and part water. How could I find out if that is even possible?

In 1965 I saw our new vehicle for all military services at the US Army Transportation School in Fort Eustis, VA. The fuel was water. In 1975 when there was no fuel at the pump, I called the school to find out what happened to that vehicle and found that all traces had been removed. It is easy to see that the name of the game is to take money out of our pocket and put it in the pocket of oil people. Iraq is just a little expense of doing business … with oil. Isn’t there a crime here somewhere ??? Whom do we report it to ???

The outcome is seems about the same, we all end up in third world poverty, living in shacks, with no electricity running water or gasoline for our cars.
Is everyone just loving Keynesian economics ?

My grandmother would have a stroke if she knew that her beloved little car, which she could fill for less than $10, while having the attendant check the oil and water, and wash the windows, can now hold fifty bucks worth of gas. The gas cap is attached to the tank opening with a loop of cable, and cannot be locked. Does anyone know of a way I can lock it up without giving up the original cap? I’m not even sure I can install a locking cap, but if I can, I guess it would be cheaper than furnishing the teenagers in my complex with unlimited fuel. Back in 1965, a tank of gas wasn’t worth getting a mouthful while siphoning….nothing is forever.

96 chry sebring convert. jx 2.5l, 155k, new eng, new trans
situation has happened 4 times in 6months, fuel tank has had 1/2 tank or more. driving along at any speed. car becomes “sluggish” increasing accelerator does not result in acceleration. car slows, depressing accel. does nothing, response is flat. eventually car comes to a stop. Engine still runs and now service engine soon light comes on. attempts to accelerate engine dont work. engine quits. will almost start, or does start but will only idle. depressing accel. causes stall. Let car sit for 15 min to overnight and starts up and is “normal” (accelerates, drives, idles etc.). I had the fuel filter changed the first time it happened. The same time and every time there after I have disconnected the fuel line at its entery to eng. compartment and collected fuel to visually look for water, dirt etc. abundent fuel when engine is cranked, fuel is free of water/dirt. Ideas?
Thanks for the replies. Gearnofear, do you mean that I can determine the code by following the key “on off” sequence and then counting the flashes, and I don’t need a code reader to determine the code? I understand that I will need someone to interpret the code once I have it, though. thanks.

It’s a project truck and I’ve had the air breather off for a while and some rain water had gotten into the TBI and the gas pedal was pressed, causing some water to go into the intake. It’s not much but I heard a friend of mine say that it ruined his motor when he did that. It’s a 95 Silverado btw.

I have a 97 Dodge Intrepid that was low on gas and went through water. It died in the water and now will not start. Air system, spark plugs have been cleaned already. Any suggestions welcome. Thank you.
