I have a 4 stroke Kawasaki jet ski that’s a 2008. We put it on the lake yesterday And the day before for the first time in a year. The first day it worked perfect, the only thing was when you let off the gas after about 30 seconds the engine would shut itself off as if you had pressed the stop button. Now the next day we ran it to empty on gas and stopped at a marina to fill it up. I shut it off to fill it and then when I turned it back on and tried to push the start button the engjne would turn over but it wouldn’t start. We took it out of the water on the trailer and tried to start it and it fired right up. We drove it to another launch spot to give it some time to drain possibly and launched it where it was working perfect, minus the fact that as soon as you let off the gas the engine dies immediately. We thought maybe it was battery trouble but we had a brand new battery put in a week ago. Any thoughts???

Changed all hoses, spark plugs, new fuel pump, new relays for fuel pump, changed fuses, and new water pump and STILL NO LUCK. The Pontiac starts when it wants too, it does turn over (radio, lights, etc. all turn on), but the engine won’t start.
Does ANYONE have ANY ideas what else could be wrong?

This car is driving me insane getting it started. Granted, I have knowledge of motors and cars but I can’t seem to figure out what my friends and I are doing wrong. Ok with this car, we have been replacing parts left and right. It has sat for over 10 years but a couple months ago, we started replacing a lot. Here is the list: Starter, battery, alternator, distributor, spark plugs, spark plug wires, head gaskets, thermostat, intake manifold gaskets, hoses, belts, cables, water pump, air filter, fuel filter, fuel lines, fuel pump, installed new fresh fuel draining all the old fuel out. Adjusted the valves four times (we know they are good), checked timing way too many times and that is good and probably some other parts I am forgetting. Anyway, I bought a rebuilt Rochester 2GV carb from a guy with the same exact car as mine (1972 chevelle 350 A/T 2 barrel carb.) He said he ran it on his car and it worked fine. Installed it on mine and the car improved. When I go to start it, it turns over extremely well and gets really really REALLY close to starting but won’t go over the hill to say the least. Itll go vr-vr-vr-vr-vr-vr-vr-vr-VR-VR-VR-(and just about ready to vroooooooooooom) but it won’t do that. Just turns over really fast but won’t go fully and start and idle. With these cars, it should “mumble” or hear the muscle car sound when idling or turning over for that matter. But when we turn it over, sometimes you can hear the muscle car sound but others, all you hear is just regular turning over like a regular toyota or other import car. Not picking on them, but you cant hear the muscle car sound when my car is turning over. Sometimes you can, others, nothing. About 50/50. So anyway, I look down inside the carb. If you move the throttle cable back and fourth, you can see the accelerator pump pumping. See the fuel squirting. Sprayed starting fluid in there, and nothing happened. Just turning over regularly. I know sometimes before, you can actually hear it take affect when sprayed in there. It’ll actually start and then stall right away. But today, it wouldn’t take no affect. Checked timing light, and the timing is correct. So then, we took the fuel line off at the carb and turned it over, and there was only a lil’ bit of fuel coming out. It has gas but not a lot of fuel was spitting out. Hmm….? Like I said, when I hold the gas pedal down, it’ll get really close but just won’t go over the hill and won’t even start with starting fluid dirctly in there.

i started my car this mornign and it sounded like a diesel engine and almost cut out when it was idling.the engine was jumpy and garggling. almost sounded like a mean v-8 motor with the popping noise. i turned off the car and restarted it. Sounded almost the same.idled for 2 minutes. 3rd start sounded alittle better and smoothed out back to normal. I drove in real heavy rain for an hour yesterday. Live in FL Temp is about 70. Nothing drastic. My thoughts were water getting in the gas somehow/ or i bought bad gas (but i drove 30 miles after i bought it with no problem.) I drove to work today and the car runs like normal. I did notice the temp gauge go up and down according the the rpm’s though. Never hit the danger zone though. what do u think this could be?
IM HOPING ITS NOT THE HEAD GASKET. i checked the oil its not a gravy color. no water mixing with oil. even though thats not a given but im trying to be optimistic. i just went outside and it starts up like nothing every happened. the air filter is k and n. I will give it an oil change 2 day.
Why do u say head gasket?

I have a 1994 glastron with a 4.3 liter volvo penta gm engine. Boat ran fine last year stored for winter now won’t start. I put new cap and rotor, new fuel/water separator on it. It turns over but is not getting fuel. Put new fuel pump relay in same thing. If you put gas in carb. boat will start but kill as soon as gas is gone. When you disconect the connection to the fuel pump and jump the fuel pump with a jumper wire the fuel pump works, reconnect it and it and fuel pump dont work. Something is telling the fuel pump to not work. If you remove the relay and turb the key on and test the relay socket it shows 12 volts. Help!!!!

It will stay running once it is warmed up, yet I have to rev it up for a few minutes before it will run/idle on it’s own. I’m turning it into a race car for a compact car division at the local race track. The person I bought it from told us that it sat for three years or more. It sounds like water in the tank, but I’ve already put dry gas in it. Does it need carburatuer cleaner? New plug wires? What can I do to help it start better?

Okay so last night it was like ten degrees outside and I tried to start my car and it just wouldn’t start at all. I figured it was just too cold.
Today, I tried to start it up and it started and then the battery light came on like it does if the car stalls out or something, and then turned off. I tried to do it about 2 or 3 more times and it just kept turning off.
I believe that the battery is fine because I can turn the car on, just not start the engine/keep it running.
My gas is really low, the gas light hadn’t turned on quite yet, but it is very low.
My step-father said there might possibly be water in the gas tank, and since it’s low that would cause this problem now?

I have a 98 Mercury Sable which is not staring up at the moment, here is the information on have on that.
1) The car worked fine just a few minutes before.
2) I was told it sounded like water in the fuel line, I put in water remover (Heet brand).
3) Found out I should use two things of Heet, so I put in a second one.
4) It will start for less than a second, exhaust comes out, you can hear the roar of life then it stops.

It’s had a starting issue for about a couple weeks now. It will crank, and it wont turn over, so I turn the ignition off. Then I go to crank it again and it starts almost instantaneously. I was worried, but I had family problems going on at the time so I didn’t investigate into it. The coldest night chicago’s had in a while, a couple of days ago, I go to start it. It cranked really slow, and then tried to turn over but bogged out. Then I go to turn the ignition on again and nothing happened. No crank or anything. I did the headlight test to see if I had a weak battery, and the headlights didn’t dim when I tried to crank it. So at first, I just took the easy way out and said, just jump it any way. So I tried to jump it, and nothing. I came home later and checked all of the fuses, relays (clutch safety switch, fuel pump relay, etc.) and they all turned up clean. I checked the fuel pump, and it was working fine (i had someone turn the ignition on, and i listened to hear it cycle). That came up clean. I’m thinking now, that it might be a bad connection from the battery to the solenoid. Seeing as how the bendix drive won’t even spring out, it might be a bad connection to ground, or maybe a bad connection from the battery, a short, i’m not even sure. But at this point, i’ve run out of all other options. The battery is running 9 volts, because the car has been sitting for three days, and i’ve been trying to crank it constantly. It’s been on the trickle charger since.
