NOW THAT THE WEATHER HAS CHANGED, MY CAR WILL RUN HOT NOW. WHEN I’M DRIVING OTHERS OFTEN SAY THEY SMELL GAS. THEN IF I DRIVING DISTANCE OF OVER 30 MILES, MY CAR WILL SHUT DOWN. FIRST IT WILL START WHEN I COME TO A STOP, AS I GIVE IT GAS, IT BARELY GOES ANYWHERE, THN IT JERKS UNTIL IT GOES A LITTLE DISTANCE, THN IT CUTS OFF. AT THAT POINT I WILL HEAR A SUCTION SOUND, AS IF LIQUIDS WHERE BEING OVERHEATED, UNDERNEATH MY CAR. SOMETIMES IT CONTINUES ON AND THN A COUPLE OF FT LATER…IT DOES THE SAME THING. I HAVE TAKEN IT TO 2 REPAIR SHOP FOR FIXING. ONE PLACE PUT MY CAR ON A MACHINE AND SAID IT WAS MY HORMONICAL BALANCE, IN WHICH HE FIXED…THE OTHER SAID IT WAS MY WATER BELT, IN WHICH HE FIXED. AND NOW AGAIN THAT IT’S WARMER WEATHER, MY CAR DOES IT AGAIN. IN THE WINTER TIME, I HAVE NO PROBLEM, BUT JUST AS SOON AS THE WARMER WEATHER COMES, IT SEEMS LIKE IT’S OVERHEATING TOO FAST. WHICH IS CAUSING MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT TO COME ON NOW. IM A FEMALE AND I REALLY DON’T KNOW WHAT THE PROBLEM IS. TRUSTING THESE MECHANICS GETS ME NOWHERE. I NEED HELP. VEHICLE INFORMATION: 94 BUICK LESABRE THANKS!

So I can start my 1987 Chevrolet Custom Deluxe 20 Truck, with a 350, but when I drop it into drive or reverse it will turn off, even if I try to put the gas down. Ok so the reason why I am having problems is because my little nephew decided to play gas man and filled my gas tank up with water. That was about a year ago. So I pumped all of the gas and water out by disconnecting the fuel line and turning on the fuel pump, with the gas going to a gas can. Then I changed the fuel filter, put about 5 gallons of gas in and then I got some stuff that you mix with youre gas to get the water out. I did that and it would start but stall when I drop it into gear. So what do you think I should do next? I was thinking the fuel injectors might be clogged up because the car has been sitting for so long. I did not try to start the car when all that water was in there. Then I was also think maybe I didn’t get all of that water out because I just used the fuel pump. Should I drop that gas tan k and actually empty it out? Please tell me what you think I should do? You’re help is appreciated. Thank you
It is fuel Injected. Cars with Carbuerators don’t have fuel injectors, right? By adjusting the timing you are talking about making the car idle at a higher RPM, right? Why would that fix the problem?
Yes and if you car dies when it is idleing (like the rpm’s slowly drop untill the engine cuts off) most of the time that is because there is too much build up in the throttle body and you need to take the tb off and clean it and inside the intake and inside of everything else that you can get into without getting cleaner in the engine. You should never just keep on raising the rpm’s you are idling at.

I’ve thought about water in the gasoline, and have put Prestone Water Remover in the gas tank.
I’ve thought about the fuel filter, but from what I’ve read, if the filter was bad, then it would sputter when I accelerated, which it does not.
The boat accelerates just fine, zero issues. It idles extremely rough and stalls when put in gear if you don’t rev the engine right away. It will also stall if left in idle for more than a minute.
After scouring the internet, I’m at a loss. What could be the solution?

1989 32′ Carver with the original merc 350ci engines. have had the boat for 4 years. engines start/run/idle smoothly and powerfully. when first started and warmed up, the engines will run 3000 to 3200rpms (about 14/15 gph) for an hour with no problems. one motor will suddenly stumble, like it’s not getting fuel. it will pick up again, and stumble, worse and worse… backing off the throttle all the way and shutting off the engine for 1 minute, then restarting – it will run perfect again for 20 minutes? it happens to both motors randomly – with two completely independent systems. (different fuel tanks/lines/pumps/filters…) have changed the filters (both in-line and fuel water separators) numerous times, and see no visable particles, nor any significant change. pulled the pick up line out of the tank and inspected… nothing notable. ideas?
