first-time car owner looking for advice?

so i bought a mitsubishi lancer GLS 2008 a few days ago and everything is running just fine on it. it has 76 thousand kilos on it. my dad advised me to not take it in for the “80K checkup” that they do with most cars as he says dealers are rip-off artists and just deal with each issue as it becomes problematic with a regular mechanic. he said to be wary of things like: screeching sound from the brakes, the car strongly vibrating when standing still, the engine “taking a beat” before accelerating when i gun the gas pedal, and water spitting out of the AC vents when i put it on “Auto”. is there anything else i should be wary of or be inspecting myself every once in a while to decide when the car is due for a visit to the mechanic?

in the next couple of months. It doesn’t matter if it has a completely perfect paint job or interior, as long as it runs well. Don’t have very much money, but I would be willing to trade my ride. I have a 1995 Ford Probe with all 4 alloy wheels, a 5-speed and a custom exhaust and spoiler. I have installed a cold air intake, and am thinking about installing a hydrogen generator to increase gas mileage. The main problem is that it’s purple, and the clearcoat is gone. Really good car, have title and about to replace license plates. I grew up reading my dad’s car books (hes been a mechanic for over 20 years) So I know a little myself. Really love Miata’s and S2000′s, but there just aren’t very many around here, thanks to the Ford Mustang and the Mitsubishi eclipse. Don’t get me wrong, I like these cars also, but am mainly interested in Mazdas and Hondas. Anyone who would be interested in the next couple of months, any help would be appreciated. Thanks

I am looking for a product that will stop my fuel tanks from being corroded by ethanol. Does it exist? Where?

I have searched the net and so far, I have not found a product that will inhibit the corrosion caused by ethanol in gasoline. It has been known for a long time that ethanol causes corrosion in mild steel due to higher water content and acidic contaminants such as formic and acetic acid that can arise during processing (as well as oxidation of the fuel during storage). I asked my fuel supplier this question, and he told me that ethanol does not cause corrosion. I then read an article that was written in 1991 that details the problem and names products such as Shell ALCOOL (marketed in Brazil). I would think that the refiners would put rust inhibitors in the fuel(silly me!).
