On going issues with an old Ford 390fe?

Here’s what’s going on. The truck sat up for several months during which time water got in the fuel. When I finally got around to draining the tank and got it started the truck just wouldn’t idle and would miss/backfire going down the road (every once and a while it would act like it was running right). I replaced the carburetor with a new one, it had no effect. The truck ran the same. I replaced the spark plugs, the truck always ran rich and the plugs should have been black but they were tan. I replaced the cap and rotor (Ford duraspark ignition) with no change. I checked the vacuum, it was a little low (15inch)but the truck has a little bit of a cam. I checked the compression and the cyls were within 10 psi of each other. When I do get it to idle (the idle screw on the carb is almost all way in, (it should sound like a plane ready for take off) the motor runs around 800 rpm roughly. Every few seconds it hits like I’ve patted the throttle. I pulled plug wires and it seemed that every other cylinder had no effect on idle quality though they are getting fire. After checking all this could my troubles be in the brain box or distributor? It’s strange.

2006 H-D Sportster 1200: What is causing idle issues?

I have a 2006 XL1200C. The problem happens after riding for a while and the engine is hot. The idle sounds off and when I try to accelerate again it struggles and sometimes backfires and stalls. The only modification is a set of “M-16″ pipes from Tailgunner Exhaust (http://tailgunner-exhaust.com/M-16-exhausts08.php). I’ve had them for over 6 months without trouble. I’ve also tried “Sea Foam” and fresh gas in case it was water in the gas. My spark plugs are also fine.

1974 camaro overheating issues?

I have a 1974 camaro RS i am restoring, its seen better days but its the love of my life. I am working on a budget so every dollar is precious to me. I recently replaced the radiator because it was overheating. The radiator was made for a 1970-1975 SS, which has more power, and better cooling then the RS. The radiator helped the overheating issue a lot, but on long trips, it still hits 220-230F and starts to boil over. So i guess my question is… With this knowledge, what can i do to either increase the efficiency or cause it to not boil over..

1987 50hp evenrude lots of issues?

the boat had been sitting for 3 years in the water at all times and i stumbled upon it and got it running after awhile. but the boat runs horribly it will not idle and wont get over 3500 rpms in gear… now the weird stuff it will go over 3500 rpms out of gear and it will fire up strongly and all the sudden no studer it will just cut out only out of gear though. runs smoothly when its in gear and it will rev for about 1/2 second before it slows down

Alternative fuel and technologies: Hybrids and E85 issues question.?

I am frustrated with the rhetoric and politics !
Does everyone on the hybrid and E85 bandwagon understand the following?? Comments?? Constructive comments!
Hybirds Carry a premium over a comparable gasoline engine. Negating any benefit in fuel mpg gained.
Hybrids have many more batteries made of precious metals lead and nickel not to mention acid, adding weight to the vehicle and creating serious disposal, ( hazardous materials) repair and replacement issues.
Hybrids Don’t get anywhere near the EPA estimates in mileage.
Ethanol Causes MPG to drop 20-30 %.Ethanol has less energy ( in BTU’s) then gasoline. Physics
Ethanol Absorbs water and is corrosive. This creates massive storage and transportation issues.( Although E85 cars are designed for this).
Ethanol Is very difficult to make produce much more so then gasoline.
Oh, and Bio-diesel is even worse then any of the above.
