I have a 1976 Mercury 1150 Power Trim boat motor. The boat will not plane out all of the time Why?

The motor idles fine, starts fine, trims fine, and is reliable as far as running. The problem starts when you put it up to full throttle, it shoots out of the hole and begins to plane out but then falls back into the water and will only go 5 to 10 miles an hour at full throttle the RPM’s fall as well, also if one pumps the primer bulb sometimes it is enough to get the engine going, but this is not an all the time fix either only sometimes. The carbs have been rebuilt, the compression checked, the fire and timing checked, the fuel pump diaphram replaced and the fuel line has been checked for air leaks. Nothing, I do not know what else to check. What else could there be?

boat trouble shooting?

I have a 115 HP OMC engine in my 19′ sunbird speed boat. I have been using it the last few weeks and after taking it out last saturday for most of the day i went to fill the gas tank and after only 2 gallons the gas started to overflow out of the vent/overflow device. I can’t get more then 2 gallons at a time. When it should be easily taking about 10 gallons at least. Then when i took it out since the boat runs fine at WOT but when in no wake zones at 1000 to 2000 RPMS the RPMS slowly decline until the engine starts shaking and stalls or you pump the primer bulb to “force” more gas flow through. What could be the likely problem? And could both be related? I did change the fuel line, primer bulb, and fuel filter and added fuel additive to the gas. This does not happen all the time. IF i go through 8 no wake zones the stalling problem will happen in about 4 of them. Sometimes it runs fine at that speed and no primr bulb pumping is necessary. P.S. should i install a water seperator to the fuel line?

How will a badly nicked up prop effect my boat? Like this?

I have a 14′ aluminum fishing boat with an older (60′s) 25HP Johnson. It really starts and runs great except in the lake when I give it the gas it seems to only go half speed and won’t plane out. Yes, the prop is chewed up. I bought it this way. The previous owner told me it was that way for him always. It is a BIG old motor. Could it be too heavy and cause this? Although it sits in the water good. Possibly the lower unit? Compression is good. Plugs are good. Runs great.
Prop is badly nicked but what if that doesn’t solve the problem?

Is it ok to keep my 16.5 ft. boat suspended above water using the d rings on back & front?

I have a 1995 Kenner open fishing boat v bottom & center console with 90 hp Suzuki. At the dock where I am keeping the boat they want to keep it suspended out of the water at all times. The boat slip is set up with a hoist that is good up to about 7700 lbs. Thanks to my answer from Seattles I think my dry weight is about 1200 lbs plus 341 for the motor and plus fuel, 2 anchors, etc.
What I would like to know is the stress on the d-rings – 2 in the back and the one up front (not a lifting ring on the bow) I use this ring when I winch the boat out of the water on to the trailer.
At one of the marina’s they used these same 3 rings for lifting my boat out in and out of the water from dry storage but never continuous weight hanging.
Will these rings hold this or should I have reinforcement plates and larger rings?
Thanks,
Josey

after out on the water trolling for several hours,my boat won’t come up to speed. only goes about 10 mph.?

I’m a 22 foot C.C. with a 225 Merc. newer model, I’v changed the lower case oil and it seemed ok. the one day out on the water several hours trolling , i started my way back home and thats when she’d only go about 10 mph full throttel with with about 2500 rpm. after shutting the engine off several times it finally kicked back in and I was able to resume regular speed. any Ideas? I’m thinking throttel cabel, lower case problems, clogged fuel line.

Will suddenly stopping a stern drive boat cause water to enter engine?

I just got my boat back from having a rebuilt engine in it. I launched the boat and took it for a run, not opened up just enough to keep it on plane then backed off the throttle to cruise. It ran great for the first outing. I could hear a popping noise coming from the carb. I let off on the gas and it died, and wouldn’t turn over. I took it back to the marina and he told me the motor was cooked. He said that I must have let the throttle of quickly which caused water to enter the exhaust and into the motor, which in turn blew the motor. Is this possible or is he filling me with false info so he doesn’t have to replace the motor? I had the motor running for not even 3 hrs total.

Would you be able to live on a boat and never have to pay taxes?

I mean like the property/house/etc. taxes not the ones at the store. Anyway, I was thinking the other day and I thought, could someone ever get by living on a boat without the government catching them, i mean you’d just roam around and whenever you’d need anything (gas, repairs on boat, food, etc.) you’d go park your boat in the water and go on and do whatever you need to do for yourself or boat. Oh, and you would get to own a car. Would this ever be possible? It’d seem fun, maybe for a week, haha.

My boat will not stay running. When you prime the fuel it will run for about a minute.?

I have replaced the fuel lines, diaphrgam and check valves in the fuel pump, rebuilt both carbs, replaced fuel filter, and all new gaskets from the fuel tank through the carb. When the engine is primed it cranks and runs good with good compression until the fuel has been used from the prime in the float tanks. I noticed yesterday in the while in the water that no water in coming from the weep hole. Could the engine be geting to hot evaporating the fuel in the fuel pump? THe engine is a 1977 or 79 outbaord 2 cycle mercury 650, 65hp. Please Help?

boat troubles?

I have a boat engine/moter(i dont know what its called) that goes 40 mph. Yesterday i went out on a river and it worked perfectly. Today i went out again, and the moter started shaking when i turned it on , and it would not gain speed. Also smoke would come out, and there was a bit of gas on the water, from me. I had to twist some things around it there, and it worked, and it stopped on its own and it would not reach its speed.

Flipped my boat and engine got underwater. how to fix?

engone was compltely submerged so dried the spark plugs and put some water remover in the gas and it ran fine for 15 min but wont start now?
