Someone put sugar and water in my gas tank!!?

After a person put sugar and water in my gas tank I was completly stranded in a city where I did not know anyone. I called a locally owned body shop and had it towed. I kept explaining to the owner that I was trying to move since leaving due to domestic voilence and had little money and did not have anywhere to live yet. I was having to stay in a local motel until the car was fixed. He kept telling me everyday that it was a huge issue and would call me back to give me an estimate or date it would be fixed. He never called back and the 10 times a day I called him, it was an exuse like “diagnostics take time”, “no chance to put it on the rack”, and the best “I have had the flu”. This went on 2 weeks and said it was of over $1000 no payments arrangements and would have to pay a storage fee and if I could not pay in 30 days they would sell my car. I have since had it fixed for 300 and learned a hard lesson. Isn’t there something that I can do so this won’t happpen to anyone else?

Talk to the consumer affairs people in that city/state. They might be able to help you.

Go to ripoff report.com and report them. I doubt they’re with the BBB. Also, a letter to the local newspaper there. Curious – what’d the other shop do to fix your car?

Sue him in small claims court or turn him into the better business burea. You should start by putting him in the Ripoff Report. the address is http://www.ripoffreport.com/ That way lots of people will see this and won’t go to that scum snot wad. I don’t know what city you are in, but in Michigan, we have the channel 4 news Hall of shame where bad businesses get told on by everyday people like you. ANd also channel 7 Bill for action. See if they have anything like this in your state. Tell the world on him!

What part?
I’ve seen locking gas caps for sale at auto parts stores. Invest in one.

Mechanic saw you as an easy mark. When you settle in at new home and make friends, find out where the good and trustworthy mechanics are and use them. Never go into a situation like that and tell all the details. Tell him that you need this dealt with immediately or you’ll find a place that will. If you are on your own, look into AAA. $100 per year is not so bad if you need 1+ tows or a flat tire fixed every once in awhile.

Good luck to you

DAMN, that sucks, well it’s gonna be a battle. well first of all let me congratulate you on leaving the abusive seen. (domestic violence) second ahh you could check with the “BBB” they are the Better Business Bureau, hopefully the shop that you took your car is registered with them, and what that does is that they will investigate things, you could file a complaint with them as well, and if there are enough amounts of complaint then they (i believe) could actually shut them (the shop) down, and remove the owner’s license. sorry about that, good luck

you should conntact the attorney general of that state, you should have deceptive trade act. when someone puts sugar and water, the filter will catch the sugar and the water will eventually burn of a filter just costs a few dollars. in tx deceptive trade is *3. you might have to sent him a letter first while explaining the trade act in your state, just follow directions on hoe to do the letter. and youll see how hell become like jelly in your hands.
