If hydrogen powered automobiles became available this year, would you drive one?

As an alternate fuel source, hydrogen has great potential. It is present in unlimited quantities in our atmosphere, it burns clean and leaves only water as a result of combustion. One of the current deterents against hydrogen is that it takes a large volume of gas to power a vehicle for long distance trips. Hydrogen is not easily compressed so the volume of the fuel tank in your vehicle is prohibitive for a small to medium car.

No. I would wait till they work out all the kinks. Remember, hybrids had problems first few years.

In a minute.

no because shortly after they were presented, the oil lobbyists would pay to have them recalled and the patent would be lost in a mountain of paperwork

I wouldn’t drive a hydrogen powered car nor a hybrid because both vehicles in fact use up like 70 barrels of oil to make a single vehicle. They clearly are not liable. I vote using my feet and public transit.

If they came out this year, would I be stupid enough to buy the first models of an unproven vehicle? Uh, no. I will let some people try them out for a few years first. Who wants to be driving the Edsel of the hydrogen cars?

Jul 8th at 7:31 am By: sbinder3111

no because Hydrogen is highly explosive and since there are too many stupid people in this world, its likely you’d get blown up a a service station by someone being careless.

No. i strongly believe in alternative fuel use, as such, Hydrogen fuel cells are a cop out.

Just release the water engine allready!!

It is not hard. there were working models in Australia in the sixties… they threaten the oil companies..

Hydrogen cars will still need fuel stations.

we shoul all fillup our carse from the tap.

NO, they are bad for the environment. We need to use electricity to separate and compress the Hydrogen. TO use Hydrogen to run our cars we would need to build Hundreds of new Coal fired power plants dedicated to separating Hydrogen. Hydrogen powered cars are merely a shifting of the pollution from the cars to the Power Plant. We are still using fossil fuel, Coal, to power the car! There is no miracle solution or free energy!

Well,if it’s safe and affordable why would I mind. But the point is it is not that easy.Hydrogen is a highly explosive and unstable gas.It cannot be used directly as fuel.So I feel it will be some time before safe methods of using hydrogen are devised.
