i am building a hydrogen fuel cell to put in my car will it hurt my car?

i have a 1980 pinto and its an older car and i know that a hydrogen fuel cell can duble mpg and boost power by burning the gas faster and burning more of it and i wonted to know if it wuld heat up my car to much or somthing?
im 15 yrs old and a hidrogen fuel cell is VERRY easy to build……..and can it over heat my engine?

You have the mechanical skills and chemical expertise to do that?

I’m impressed.

All the car manufacturers are spending billions of dollars on the same thing, if you can do it in your garage, you should become rich and famous.

I would guess you would need to install it in the rear seat/trunk area and put a Lexan firewall behind the front seats – depending how big the unit is.
You will also need to install a separate a/c unit in the fuel cell area to purge it of any excess gases.

Good luck – post photos on line.

If you can build a hydrogen fuel cell by yourself, you clearly are more then capable of adding the required safety measures.

Good luck, when you have finished your car could you turn your attention to the banks and healthcare issues?. We need people like you!.

You’re confused. A fuel cell consumes hydrogen, burns it, and generates electricty.

What you are building is an electrolysis unit that generates a tiny amount of hydrogen. Good question about getting the engine hot. I never ran an engine on hydrogen, so I’m not going to pretend to give you an answer. I’d say that’s just part of the experiment.

It can’t possibly improve your gas mileage, though. Sorry. Your car is carbureted, so even if you had a source of hydrogen that made thermodynamic sense, your car isn’t able to make any adjustements for that.

actually they produce less power than gas. it will leak out of every joint because it is so thin. The heat generated depends on how you have your engine setup with timing, etc. We had a ford unit here where I work. Lots of stuff to add to make it work.

It could if you are careless.
There are many factors involved in whether an HHO generator will work well or not. The major factors are:
1. what are the electrodes made of, how well will they conduct electricity and how quickly will they corrode?
2. What electrolyte mixture are you using in the water (electrolyte is required to make the water conduct electricity to split the hydrogen and oxygen)
3. how much oxygen are you involving in the gas out to the engine?
4. How many o2 sensors does your vehicle have and how will they react to the extra oxygen they will detect? (sometimes the o2 sensors will detect more oxygen and increase your fuel ratio to compensate for it – I personally have not had this problem, but have heard others record it)
5. How much volume of HHO gas by LPM are you making available to your engine and compare this to your engine’s size.

Speaking from my personal experience with the generator I built, I have literally TRIPLED my gas mileage.

POTENTIAL HAZARDS include:
1. Chance of exploding HHO gases if mis-used.
2. Blown fuses and burned wiring.
3. Water damage to the exhaust over time.
4. Water in the engine – if you are really really careless.
