Hydrogen instead of gasoline?

Ok, i was recently talking with some of my family and we were discusing a plan of how to convert most of the cars and Gas station into hydrogen. im not a tree huger of anything, i just think that we needs to get off the Arabs gas. so please take this into consideration, and respond back with if you think its a good idea or a bad idea and why.

So of corse you would have to conver the engines and that would be out on all new cars. that would take maby 10-20 to get all cars off Gasoline.

Then we could come up with a plan for tax cuts for eack station that has hydrogen pumps. then they would slowly all convert into hydrogen and we would pretty much forget gasoline.

Well its just a bare thought i know that some things need to be touched up, but i think that this is a good idea and that this could work somday with the help of others. i might start a blog. depending on the answers i get on this. so thanks, PLZPLZPLZ respsond with ur thoughts of yes or no and why.
Thanks, Jack

Here are some inherent problems with Hydrogen fuel. First, it takes electricity to produce enough to be a viable fuel. Electricity comes from hydro-electric, nuclear, and fossil fueled plants. The second is it is dangerous, a hydrogen fire is invisible. It needs to be stored in high pressure vessels. If we are able to get past those hurdles then it will be a viable option.

i think the switch would be a great ideal but i dont see it happening in the next 20 yrs

The problem is that there isn’t any hydrogen. You failed to address that in your clever plans. You can’t drill a hole in the ground and let hydrogen out. Did you know that’s where oil comes from? It’s true. It comes out of a hole. There aren’t any hydrogen holes.

So we’re going to get off our dependence on oil. Fine. So then we’ll be dependent on what, exactly? What is your plan to get some hydrogen?

I think your idea is fine – perhaps even natural gas might be a decent idea.
Fuel cells, electric – ANYTHING but the Middle East’s oil and we’d be a heck of a lot better off.

I have just finished building my own hydrogen unit. I have not installed it yet. Check ebay you will find hydrogen units for sale, some are in jars, others are in plastice drain tubes. Then google ” browns gas”. Why are the big 3 not using this old technology already? This system does not replace the gasoline system, it makes it run cleaner and more efficiently=better gas mileage for free, almost.

I think the idea is fantastic, Hydrogen is the most abundant element in the Universe. Anyone can make hydrogen, I would rather run hydrogen then bow down to the Islamic world.
