How am I getting gas in my oil ?

Ok, I have a 1998 Buick Regal GS with a V6 Supercharged 3.8 Engine. My car wouldn’t start for some time now. It needed a crank sensor, now it’s running. But before I fixed that, the last time I drove it I put oil in my car and at first I thought I overfilled it since it was a tiny bit over the full mark. Anyways, I decided to clean my engine with a water hose, and after I did that like 20 minutes later after my car running it started to stall out on me. Well I did get it running again, but I smell gas on the oil dipstick when I checked it again. The fluid on the stick is the color of oil though, there’s no milky, water or bubbles on the stick. The injectors look a little bad to me though, since around them there’s a fluid that seems to be leaking but i’m not for sure. What do you think the problem can be because I’m smelling gas on the dipstick ?

Thanks in advance.

Something is broken up top and is leaking down, or maybe you have a crack in your cylinder.

Sure you should have been getting water in there?

Sounds like you have a leak.

A small amount of gas will get past the rings before the spark plugs fire. this usually boils off when the engine gets hot so you don’t notice it. If your engine doesn’t get up to operating temperature then you may smell gas. If that is not the problem you have a liking injector. To check this hook up a fuel pressure gauge turn the key to the on position and back off the fuel pressure should stay up for several minutes. If you have an injector leak crank the engine over a second and shut it off remove the spark plugs the wet plug is the cylinder with the injector leak.

Your upper intake manifold gasket might be leaking

Probably, if you were cranking and cranking and cranking and the engine wasn’t starting, the gas that was not being burned was leaking past the rings and down into the oil.

Change the oil then recheck it after a few miles, if the gas smell is back you may have a leaking fuel injector.
