Fuel Pump Or Water Pump ?

I have been having problems with my nissan 180sx over the last few weeks. When first starting the car up for the day the car will automatically have a rough start and shut down then i try again
and the engine warms up fine. I spoke to a few people and they thought this problem could be the water or fuel pump causing this. It has almost overheated on two occasions in the last 2 months with the air-con on.

Today my car wouldn’t start at all. The car is regularly
serviced and looked after and it has a new battery.

So could the water or fuel pump finally seized and has caused the car to not start ?

Thanks, Jaala :)

I would replace your thermostat first. When cranking it over, You get no activity at all? It could be you arent getting any fuel.. Check the line coming off the fuel pump that goes to the motor.

Pull it off, and apply voltage to the pump. Unless its mechanical, im not sure about the nissans.

These are 2 totally different problems. A hard start, or rough idling is usually caused by the ignition system and its components, anything to do with fuel, ignition, combustion.
The engine running hot or overheating is caused by the cooling system, so its tough to give one answer here. If your water pump fails completely, you will definitely overheat if you drive the car. Take it to a mechanic.

It sounds weird, but if the water pump froze it could cause it not to turn over same as the alternator, or any other acc powered by the belt. That could cause the over the heat problem. Now the start quit start and run a sensor or other type of electric problem ,or in the fuel regulator, or injectors.

OK. From what I’ve read, I suggest you get your fuel pump replaced. That is to get the car start. Once done that replace the Thermostat. If it is not the thermostat then it might be the Water pump or the cooling temperature sensor. Try to Start the car first. (New Fuel pump)
