ford ranger problems?

My 1986 ford ranger 4wd, 2.9. v6 is shutting down after it warms up. I have changed the spark plugs, spark plug wires, distributor cap and rotor and checked the gasoline for water and it still put puts and shuts down so my question is does anyone have a clue to what it might be? Can i take it to a shop and connect it to the computer or is it to old? Thanks.

This guy is probably right, but spend $30 and get an Actron scanner for it. The thing runs a bunch of tests on you Ranger. Got an 87 Bronco 2 I use it on.

You say it runs good when cold? and putters when at running temp? Is the carb or throttle body bad? could be some sensor in the computer! a cracked coil? (when it gets hot the spark is shorting out)

Could be fuel pump..works when cold, then seizes or slows down when hot.. You might also have a temp sensor that is telling the truck that the engine is cold when it is actually warmed up.. causing it to run too rich and putting it in a trouble mode.
