I bought this truck like 2 months ago it was running great. it only has 81000 m on it
I changed the fuel filter water separator it was very dirty it has like mud. I replaced the filter.

Unplug your mass air flow sensor. If it runs ok with it unplugged, replace it. If not, check your fuel rail pressure and injectors.
i had a dodge 318, the alternator was “overcharging” the system and would ruin the ballast resistor (like a fuse)…instead of spending $1000 to fix the problem? id have a lot of extra fuses (it was cheaper)
Your truck has no MAF sensor step one as that didn’t come out until the 2003 MY.
But if you had trash in the fuel bowl, you may have trash in the fuel system.
Step one however is to change the oil and filter if it hasn’t been done in the last 5,000 miles or so… These vehicles need clean fuel and clean oil to operate. 15 qts of 15w40 in the summer and 10w30 oil in the winter in most the US if I remember should help.
After that it’s a check of glow plugs makign sure they come on and heat the cylinder for 30 seconds before you crank the engine.
Other than that it’s hard as the truck is mainly computer based and needs a scan tool to diagnose other issues with it..sorry
