Can water in gas tank ruin my fuel pump?

couple months ago got gas at mobil near my home and my truck started acting up. a coworker told me to go to the autoparts store and get some water remover and a new fuel filter. That solved the problem the first time, i made the horrible mistake of going back there again fixed the problem again, 5 days later, still on the same tank of gas its acting up again but differently, sputtering at low rpms and i think it may be the fuel pump. I believe the fuel pump is caused by this crappy gas is it possible? and is there anyway to prove it and get them to pay for my new 150-200$ fuel pump?

i don’t think it would be the fuel pump cuz the’ll pump anything but put some dry gas in you tank and fuel injector cleaners [if your car is fuel injected]

this may sound weird but fuel acts as a lubricant for your fuel pump. so when you are pumping foreign materials it can cause problems but not usually that quick. a more likely cause is you filled your car right after the tanker had been there. because when they fill the tanks under the station a bunch of sediment is kicked up and this can now be sucked into the station pump and into your cars fuel tank. and what has probably happened is you damaged your injectors because the hole is so small that sand would act like sandpaper going through there. but you will need to have further diagnosis to be sure.
and no you cant hold the station responsible for any damage like this, it will also likely void your warranty. sorry
