Can water become or turn into oil to run engines?

All petrol consumers are worried about shortage of oil. Will the discovery of engine that can use water as fuel or water being turned into fuel for engines to solve the shortage situation. When that happens the use of oil will be reduced. Water is plentiful, including the sea wate and it will certainly be cheaper in the long run for any invention of engines to consume as fuel or water to become fuel for the engines.

well you would probably need purified water and it already costs more per gallon than gas does looks like electric will be the future.

Hi,

the short answer to your question is NO.

However many people are looking into the use of ‘Fusion’ power (nothing to do with the Ford Fusion!) where the molecular structure of water could be broken, so the inherent power would be released.

As yet there has been little success, but many scientists feel this is a realistic possibility. It won’t be tuurned into oil, as you suggested, but could (?) be used as fuel.

These possible developments are, not unnaturally, opposed by the companies who presently own the rights and means of collecting, refining and selling gasoline. (Indeed, it has been reported that a scientist or inventor, Robert Carline, in the late ’70′s/early ’80′s, did develop a system for obtaining fusion power and who then ‘mysteriously disappeared’ after contacting one of the major gasoline companies. For fear of following him I won’t say here which one!)

I do believe, though, that one day there will be a fuel source obtainable from water (probably after the oil companies have obtained the rights to control all water on the planet, or am I being cynical?)

Interesting question, though,

Cheers,

BobSpain

Well you could ask Harry Potter to change your water into oil, but until that happens, water is a fire extinguisher not fuel

Water cannot be turned into oil, but it can be turned into fuel – e.g. Hydrogen. At current fuel prices, this is not economically viable, but here is what it does do:
1. Eliminates pollution from cars.
2. Eliminates the need for oil – any source to generate electricity can be used.
3. Increases the over all efficiency since generators working at constant load are far more efficient than cars which stop and start…
