2004 Alero running rough, not sure if there is moisture in gas tank?

I have a 2004 Olds Alero (89,000 miles), and I drove to work this morning with no problems, except I was a bit low on gas. At 6:15 this evening I went to start up my car and it was reluctant to turn over, but did in less than a minute.

The car was shaking and idling very rough, and it’s a bit loud. No backfire, but its kind of got a putt-putt quality to the rough idling. I put in a container of Heet, the more intense one, and filled the tank. I drove the car home, for about 25 minutes, and the ride improved, but it’s still got the symptoms to a lesser degree.

I drove the car after letting it sit for about an hour, and it’s still improving, but its still not quite what I’m expecting, and I’m concerned it’s more than water in the tank. I have not had any problems with this car, and it IS due for an oil change, but the car’s warning lights are all working, and nothing is on except for the “Service Engine Soon” light.

Any thoughts would be really helpful!
Thanks!

you may need to have a new set of spark plugs installed on it when they get worn down some they will cause one to run like that, their a cheap repair compared to other repairs on that car,id try that first if it doesn’t clear up ,give it a day or two and see if the heet does what it suppose to do,then if not change the plugs on it,that should take care of it,good luck.

Using Heet is the first thing you should do, that was a good move. The service engine light is probably coming on because the computer is noticing the mmiss-fire If it doesn’t start to come out of it, you might have to have the fuel filter changed, if moisture is still in there or you picked up some dirt form running it low on gas.

If the engine lite is on you need to get the codes scanned for the problem.

You can either watching that SES light stare back at you while you toss bottles of HEET at the car or actually get your favorite shop tech to diagnose and repair the car for you.

Your call.
