2001 Ram sluggish acceleration and acts like governor engages around 2000 rpm?

It’s the 5.9 magnum. It idles fine and runs good as long as I’m gentle on the gas pedal. If I stomp down on the pedal it lurches and bucks just like the governor is shutting off the fuel at just above 2000 rpm. It does this more when the engine is under load, like going up hills, accelerating, etc. If the weather is below freezing I don’t get the jerking, it’s just sluggish. Anything above freezing and the jerking starts again. At first I thought bad fuel or water in the fuel, but that wasn’t the case. I’ve added fuel dryer, fuel system cleaner, and burned through 3 tanks of fuel from different places.
I took it to the shop and paid $100 for them to hook it to their diagnostic rig and they told me it was the pump or something in the tank. It sounds suspicious to me, seems like if it were the pump it would be worse in cold weather, not better.
Any theories would be appreciated.

it could be the pump. but check the filter first. maybe a 15 dollar part at walmart. iv had this problem before. if you let it go to long it will cause the pump to go out. its worth a try.

did they actually run a pressure test on the fuel system to find out how much pressure its holding,id do that before i replaced the pump in it,auto zone has a gage they use or will loan out so that you can check it,the cooler pump stays the better it runs so it could still be the pump going bad,but id want to be sure before i dropped the tank off to replace it and the only way to be sure is run a pressure check on it it both when its hot and cold to see how much the pressure differs, good luck on it.

I had a similar problem on my truck also. I changed my coolant temp. sensor and it fixed the proplem. Those sensors work on variable ohms. Instead of testing the sensor, I just went ahead and changed it, Engine is( 5.2) Another time, I changed the ignition coil on the fire wall and I was able to accelerate smoothly. These electronics on some of these vehicles can be so irritating’
