2000 Olds Bravada?

I own a 2000 Bravada with 87000 on it recently I forked out $900.00 for a fuel pump, now the water pump is making noise should I dump it? If so for what?

I would, Oldsmobiles aren’t exactly the most reliable out there. If you don’t mind a foriegn car thats reliable, hit up Honda or Toyota. Maitenence is cheap, and the cars are reasonably cheap. Try the 4Runner by Toyota or the Pilot by Honda, both being about the same size as a Bravada.

It sounds like the water pump is bad…. don’t drive it too much just in case something happens, but one way to check if it is bad or not is to try to make the pulley move up and down, if it does the water pump is bad. The pulley should only spin, not move back and forth

You paid $900 for a fuel pump? Let me know where you live and I’ll be your mechanic. LOL I understand the fuel pump is in the tank, but their not that hard to change. The water pump is going to be a little more challenging. If you’re not an experienced mechanic, I would take it else where. Dump it, naw, get it fixed and continue to drive it. Shop around first and get some quotes. If you take it to a dealer, you’re looking at $60 – $80/hour just for labor. Look for smaller business mechanics. If it were me changing it, you’ld be looking at around $600 for labor. A new pump should cost about $45 – $65. If you go to a dealer, buy the pump from an autoparts store and take it to them to put it in. If you get it from the dealer, they will charge you around $200 for it.

yeah, I would have done that fuel pump job for 150 out the door and warranted!
Those are nice, but I buy those from auctions for as little as a 100 bucks. seems once they start having probs they just keep going.
87 thou isnt that much for any car now adays, but it is for that motor. 4.3 no doubt. vortec I bet also.
wait till you have to start jacking with the fuel injection spider! thats where the money rolls out!

GM should have gone out of business years ago. They don’t stand behind anything that they produce, unless they are prodded to by the government. If you paid that much to replace the fuel pump, I would want to see a break down of the cost. A fuel pump shouldn’t cost any more than $150, tops. Water pumps are less complicated. All parts are visible under the hood. Good Luck!
