1990 v6 toyota pickup wont start?

i have a 91′ toyota pickup with a v6
i got it stuck in a deep puddle and the engine ran for a while when i kept it revved up but when i let the RPM down it stalled out. the engine was completely out of the water but the back end was submerged. it was sitting in the water for about 2 hours before we could get it out. my guess is there is water in the gas tank. when we pulled it out and tried to start it it barely ran for about 5 seconds and then died and wouldnt start.
if anyone could help me please let me know as soon as possible.

Throw a bottle of “dry gas” in the tank and see if that improves the run time. Might have to drain the system and refil; if it starts and runs for 5 sec’s probably not a distributor cap wet, but it wouldn’t hurt to pop it open and dry out the points.

You could use a water remover, commercial or homemade. Home made is rubbing alcohol added to gas tank. May have to drain tank. I’d change gas filter also as it may be full of water. Good luck !

no worries! It will start, most likely water in the gas or water in the distributor.

You could easily have tripped your emergency fuel pump cut-off switch that automatically shuts down your fuel pump when your vehicle is in an accident or gets jostled for any reason. That’s a safety feature to prevent a fuel fire etc. Look in your owner’s manual for the location of the cut-off switch to push in the red button and reset it manually to reactivate the fuel pump.
